Humanitarian Library

The Humanitarian Library is designed as a global clearinghouse for regional humanitarian knowledge. It is an initiative of Shelter Centre, a humanitarian NGO in Geneva.

Even though GVJ Web Consulting did not build this website, we are now hosting it and maintaining it. After studying the hosting environment of the website, we found out that many hosting resources had been purchased which weren't used anymore, and the site was also starting to be out of date. It needed help !

We first versioned its code in a Github repository. We then moved the website out of its (expensive) hosting environment to a new, cheaper and more balanced hosting environment. Then, we used Drupdate to update, in a semi-automatic way, the about 80 Drupal modules that needed to be updated.

The website is now running in its new cloud hosting environment, along with a development platform for future functionality developments. Shelter Centre reduced its maintenance costs by about 30 %, while moving to a cleaner cloud server, and while the site is constantly being monitored by Drupdate for updates.
